BROADCASTING
Diversified Communications was formed in 1949 when former Governor
Horace A. Hildreth, Sr. acquired WABI-AM in Bangor.
In 1953, WABI-TV
became the first television broadcasting station in Maine and it
became a CBS affiliate in 1955. It is still serving the area today,
and is ranked #1 in its market. WABI-TV
has been in continuous family ownership longer than any other station
in the United States.
In October 1976, Diversified Communications purchased
WCJB-TV (ABC)
in Gainesville, Florida.
PUBLISHING
Diversified Communications merged with a small New England publishing
business in 1970. Three regional commercial fishing magazines
were
combined during this merger, resulting in National
Fisherman magazine, a publication it still produces today.
Since then, the portfolio has grown to include seven trade titles
that serve a variety of markets throughout the United States and
Europe, ranging from seafood to commercial marine to
natural products. With award-winning editorial coverage, Diversifieds
publishing team consistently provides readers with vital industry
information.
EXPOSITIONS
Fish Expo Boston, Diversifieds first trade show, was launched
in 1970. Capitalizing on the success of its International Boston
Seafood Show, Diversified launched the European Seafood Exposition
in Brussels in 1992. Extending its international reach in 1996,
Diversified acquired and launched several Latin American events.
It continued to extend its global reach with the purchase of Australian
Exhibition
Services
and the launch of Singapore Seafood Exposition in 2000. In 2002,
Diversified formed Diversified Business Communications Canada
and
acquired Full Moon Communications in the UK. Today, Diversified
owns and operates over forty trade shows on four
continents.
